Beattystown, the oldest historic village in Mansfield Township, was established in 1762 as a mill village similar to others that developed in New Jersey between 1750 and 1830. During that period, it was the most important trade center on the southwestern edge of what would become Warren County. The village is one of few in the area that have retained their historic integrity to such a degree that Beattystown was listed on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places in 1990.
