About the event

Join Preservation New Jersey at our Annual Meeting for an evening of networking, tour and presentation of the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM), and to hear updates on PNJ activities this past year. The meeting will be held on site.

SSAAM was founded in 2016 with headquarters at Mt. Zion AME Church. The historic church was listed to the New Jersey State Register of Historic Places in 2018 and the National Register of Historic Places in 2021. In 2022, SSAAM and the Sourland Conservancy partnered to save the The Reasoner/True House, a historically African American-owned Small Land-Holding that now forms part of SSAAM’s museum complex.

The mission of the Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) is to tell the story of the unique culture, experiences, and contributions of the African American community of the Sourland Mountain Region.

SSAAM was recongized by PNJ in 2023 with a historic preservation project…
