HPC Round Table: Working with your Construction & Zoning Officials

Owners of a landmark or a building inside a designated historic district must obtain a permit from before performing any type of work. Overall permits are required for any restoration, alteration, reconstruction, demolition or new construction that affects the exterior of an individual landmark or a building in a historic district. Historic preservation ordinances of each municipality varies causing Commissions to face preservation challenges differently.  Join PNJ for its first historic preservation commission round table of 2024.  This round table will focus on and discuss ways to navigate and work with your local construction and zoning officials for successful preservation outcomes. 

This program will be held virtually via Zoom from 7:00-8:30pm.

About the Guest Speaker:

GIANFRANCO ARCHIMEDE, MS, RPA

Director, City of Paterson Division of Historic Preservation

Executive Director, City of Paterson Historic Preservation Commission

Gianfranco has served for the past fifteen years as Director of the Division of Historic Preservation for the City of Paterson, and Executive Director of Paterson’s Historic Preservation Commission. He provides programmatic guidance to the city on preservation planning and cultural resources, oversight of Paterson’s public preservation projects, and regulatory permitting review for hundreds of large and small scale construction projects within Paterson’s three national, state and local historic districts. Gianfranco had the privilege to assist with the establishment of the Great Falls State Park and the Great Falls National Historical Park between 2006 and 2011, and now serves as the city’s liaison in support its development. He also provides executive staff services to the Historic Preservation Commission, including administration of annual legacy programs for public awareness and education, for which the Paterson HPC was honored in 2015 with a NJ Historic Preservation Award for Outstanding Achievement. Gianfranco holds a Master of Science degree in Industrial Archaeology from Michigan Technological University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from State University of New York Oswego.

PNJ is launching a new series of roundtables for Historic Preservation Commissions to network and learn ways to navigate challenges, new technologies, and more when it comes to preservation initiatives within our communities.
