Year Listed: 1998
Status: Progress Made
City: Berlin Borough
County: Camden

UPDATES:
07/2010 Update: The hotel was saved from demolition in 1999 through grants, donations, and fundraisers. In March of 2000, the hotel was moved to a new location near its original site. It is currently undergoing a renovation.

DESCRIPTION:
Considered to be Berlin’s most significant historic landmark, the Berlin Hotel is one of five key buildings that make up the historic district of Berlin. The hotel was built in 1826 on the White Horse Pike, an early route connecting Philadelphia and Camden with the Jersey shore. The building was altered dramatically in the post-Civil War era to a Gothic revival appearance. Though it began as a stop along the White Horse Pike, it remained a thriving hotel for many years. Some features of the 2 ½ story clapboard building include cross gables, arched windows, finials, and a full-width porch. The Berlin Hotel was placed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places on March 3, 1995, and on the National Register one month later
