Join Preservation NJ via Zoom as we sit down with Sandy Hook Foundation President, Pete Izzo and Shawn Welch, Co-Chair of the Secretary of the Interior's Fort Hancock Federal Advisory Committee and of the Army Ground Forces Association to hear the latest news related to Fort Hancock.

40 buildings of the Fort Hancock and Sandy Hook Proving Ground Historic District were listed on PNJ’s “10 Most” in 1995. The site played a key role in the development of advanced weaponry and was a vital defense installation guarding New York City. Sandy Hook is also home to the Spermaceti Cove No. 2 Life-Saving Service Station, one of the earliest federally sponsored efforts to save life and property endangered in coastal shipwrecks; and one of the nation’s oldest lighthouses. Owned and managed by the National Park Service (NPS), the entire installation is a National Historic Landmark (NHL). Still, federal funding is limited and creative conversations are needed to preserve the site into the future.
